Notes:  Bailie’s party of 1820 Settlers.  DN 341/1850, 7047/1863.  John Bailie was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, later a captain in the Provisional Colonial Infantry.  He led men down the Bashee and Mpako Rivers.  His children were:

Charles  Theodore was born 19 Aug 1810 at St. George the Martyr, Southwark, London, married 10 Dec 1833 Grahamstown to Letitia Robertson, was a Lt. in 1st Batt. Provisional Colonial Infantry and died 1835 Umnxesha River, Cape.�
Archibald Hope Bailie (q.v.) born 27 Sep 1812 St. Mary Lambeth, Surrey, married 2 Nov 1835 Grahamstown to Jane A. Cumming, and died 23 Jun 1850 Port Elizabeth of wounds received in the war of 1846/7.�
Thomas Cockburn Bailie born 1813 St. Mary Lambeth, married 16 Dec 1834 Grahamstown to Margaret Campbell, served in the 1834/5 war and led a Fingo Force in 1851 against Basuto.�
John Amelius Bailie born 1815 St. Mary Lambeth, married 1842 Elizabeth Lucas, was a Wesleyan Minister, and died 20 Jun 1883 (q.v.)
